    9/11/2001 - I remember, and I will NEVER Forget

10 years ago today, I was in Mrs. Collichio’s AP US History class when the first tower was hit. Class had literally just started and we were just about to take our first quiz of the year. My teacher gets a phone call, and with tears streaming down her face, she turned the TV on. Tower 1 of the World Trade Center had been hit. Pencils DOWN she said. Confused, we couldn’t figure out the meaning of this incident. Was it terrorism? Or an accident? As more news came in, and as the second tower was hit, we became panicked. Never had our generation witnessed such an attack on our GREAT nation. The news kept pouring in hour after hour. Shortly after the crashes, the towers fell, the Pentagon was attacked, a heroic man on one of the planes helped to foil another premptive attack. Shocked and appauled, it was all we could think about and talk about for the next coming weeks and months. All of those lives lost, the uncertainty of whether or not this was the last of the attacks, or the beginning of a war.

I do remember going through DC a few months later and driving near the side of the Pentagon that had been hit. Draped over that side was the biggest American flag that I had ever seen, that covered the wound from that horrific day.

I remember working that day after school at the groccery story, and the weeks after. People had bought every single newspaper in the place, and every single American flag that we had in stock.

As the hours passed and the dust settled, I remember hearing the fear in peoples voices turn to anger. If I could point out one of my greatest memories that came from this tragedy, it would be that it united us. Every national anthem that was played, was louder than ever. Every person who held their hand over their hearts and Pledged Allegience to the flag of our great nation, said it a little louder. We knew that no nation could shake us for too long. Afterall, the latter part of our daily pledge reminds us that we fight and keep fighting for our INDIVISIBLE nation… with LIBERTY, and JUSTICE FOR ALL.

9/11/2001 - We will never forget!
